Break Out Comics #4!
Here is our fourth issue which we were able to release last Dec. 11, 2007 at the Pasko ng Komiks(which was a success). Thanks to the people of Read or Die for allowing us to seat in their table. Thanks to all those who bought it.
Adonis was not able to finish Hamok in time so we have to come up with a new cover. To those who are waiting for the continuation of Ryan Francisco's TInCan Defender, here it is. Also featured in this issue is our entry to the KOMIKON 2007 Make the Page Contest. The KOMIKON organizers supplied the script and our new artist Butch Bantog did the art.
I also used a new software to layout and letter this issue. I am now using Comic Life from Plasq. So enjoy reading!

Dressing Up at Pasko ng Komiks

I suddenly had a crazy idea of dressing up as Gagamba (a 1950s komiks character of Virgilio Redondo) for the Pasko ng Komiks last Dec. 11 at the CAL Building, UP Diliman. Here are pictures taken by Azrael Colladila of myself there.

Here is what Ryan came up using the picture of Az.

Though it was a little uncomfortable, I was able to pull it off. The mask was made by Ryan (Thanks, Wry!).

The Pasko ng Komiks was a success. I was able to sell copies of our comics. No. 4 was specifically released that day. Thanks to the READ OR DIE people for letting me sit beside them (I wasn't able to bring a table and chair.) I'll to try to post some pics I got and some insights as soon as possible.

From the READ OR DIE blog:

Read Or Die, the UP Institute of Creative Writing and the UP College of Arts and Letters in partnership with Komikera and the New Worlds Alliance invite you to attend Pasko ng Komiks, a symposium on Filipino komiks. The event is the culminating activity of the 2007 College of Arts and Letters Week. The symposium will bring together komiks writers and artists from different groups and backgrounds along with respected critics.

The event is sponsored by the UP College of Arts and Letters, the National Book Development Board and WikiPilipinas.

There will also be an exhibit of komiks prints from select collections and artists in FC Gallery 2 as well as an open cosplay event featuring characters from comics–whether Filipino komiks, Western comics and graphic novels, or manga and manwha. We would like to invite everyone to participate in the cosplay.

The exhibit will be curated by Ms. Teta Tulay of the innovative female artists collective Komikera. For inquiries about donating prints or your own for exhibit, please contact her at komikera@gmail.com.

If you are a komiks publisher or artist and would like to sell your work during the symposium, please see our selling guidelines.

Images at the 28th Manila International Book Fair

Here are some images my sister Jennivy got from the Manila International Book Fair. I volunteered my services for Read or Die, a book club which advocates reading and literacy, which participated in the MIBF and organized some of the events there.

My sister Jennivy, my nephew Zire and niece Bea, and our alaga Winona joined the literary cosplay. My sister was Death from The Sandman, Winona and Zire as Jill and Jack of the nursery rhyme, Bea as Tinkerbell of Peter Pan. My siter was 8th Place out of 23 cosplayers.
