Komiks Congress!!!!

Tentative date is February 16, 2007 and the venue is to be announced later.

I'm just enthusiastic about this because I think this could help upstart komiks (Filipino term for "comics") creators like myself. What they can come up in this congress might just pave the way to the future of the komiks here in the Philippines. If all of you didn't noticed, there are no more komiks sold in the bangketa or newstands. Even National Book Store doesn't have komiks on their racks anymore. I can't even say that we even have a komiks industry anymore because only a few brave komiks creators (like myself) are coming up with issues nowadays. But even I can't release in a regular basis because this is not my full time work. Also there is a problem with where we can sell our komiks. As of now, only a few stores in the Philippines sells indie komiks. As of now, I can only sell our komiks in komiks conventions and promote them through our blog, other online groups, and word of mouth.

If you want to know more of the state of komiks today, go to usapang-komiks.blogspot.com and pinoykomixbiz.blogspot.com. If you want to know about the history of Philippine komiks, go to pilipinokomiks.blogspot.com or Gerry Alanguilan's site for Phil. Komiks Museum.

Micromechs

Once in a while, when there are no tons of work piled up at his desk or no comic script comes in his way (my fault actually; tough schedule at work to keep), Ryan dabbles in digital 3D art. You might have seen some of his previous 3d works here (see archives).

Here is something he came up. Small vehicles that we can ride after we shrink ourselves. Someday we might be able to explore the micro universe around with these machines. I, too, would like to see our world in a small bug's perspective. Might be able to come up with a story plot based on this in the future (if I can just finish my work earlier).

For groups of 10 or more, we are giving away one free ticket for every ten tickets purchased.

They will also be selling two-day passes very soon.

They are in the same building as the Mini Stop convenience store and there is only one along C-5 (so far). If you are arriving by car, there are parking spaces in front of the store. If you can’t park there, the building also has spacious basement parking. The entrance to the basement parking area is right after Mini Stop.

"Moon Knight," Marvel Comics

Tony de Zuniga was born and raised in Manila, The Philippines. He started doing comics in his teens and idolized the works of Francisco V. Coching and Nestor Redondo. He graduated from the University of Santo Thomas in Manila and started doing advertising work, eventually becoming art director for several of the largest agencies in the islands. It was during this time that he met his wife, with whom he had three daughters. A few years later they moved to the United States where he became an illustrator for Scholastic Publications. Soon he joined D.C. Comics where he worked on "Jonah Hex" and "Black Orchid." He also worked on superhero titles such as "Batman," "Superman" and "Supergirl."

"Medalyang Payak"

Tony de Zuniga returned to the Philippines in 1972, to recruit some of the best Filipino artists for D.C. and Marvel. When working for Marvel, he did most of the ilustrations for "Thor," "X-Men," "Punisher," and "Conan the Barbarian" for eight years. In need of a change of pace, he then found work doing conceptual designs for Sony, Universal and Sega, which he is still doing today.

During the Holidays

Happy New Year! To start the year, here are some of the things Ryan did during the Christmas vacation.

He arranged his Gundam Plastic Model collection in his newly-bought display cabinet.

His homage to the Gundam Universe (Nasingitan lang ng Raxephone, Bandai din naman ang may gawa kaya pwede na.)

Even the chibified Ultraman statue got into the spirit of the holidays.
