Read or Die Convention 2007

RodCon 2007 is a two-day literary convention organized by Read or Die Inc.. The convention seeks to bring together readers, writers, publishers, government and school organizations and book dealers to highlight the importance of reading and literacy in building an open world for every Filipino through books. All proceeds of the event will be donated to UNICEF in partnership with AHON Foundation. We will also be conducting a signature drive in support of the National Book Development Board's campaign to set up a trust fund for Filipino authors.
The event will take place on February 3 and February 4, 2007 at the Hotel Intercon (Ayala Avenue, Makati City). The convention will be open from 9AM to 8PM daily. For information about ticket prices and hotel reservations, please visit REGISTRATION
RodCon focuses on readers and the serious craft of reading and we have organized our programming to this end:
Our PANELS range from lectures to discussion groups to workshops to book signings and launchings. The panels are multi-track, which means they will take place continuously throughout the convention. For more information on our panel schedules and how you or your group can sponsor a panel, please visit this page.
Read or Die, in partnership with bookstores, publishers and literary and cultural organizations, will set up specially themed book EXHIBITS in the convention. The nature of these exhibits are primarily informative, and exhibits will be sorted according to genre or, in the case, for example, of a literary retrospective, collections of an author's work. To learn more about our exhibits and how you can contribute to one, please vist this page.
We will also be screening FILMS featuring movies based on books.
Our DEALERS ROOM is open to major and independent booksellers, publishers, auctions, school organizations, and neigborhood-style garage sales. Sellers who secure booths and tables in the Dealers Room will be featured in our SOUVENIR BOOK. For our seller classifications, rates, and conditions, please visit this page.
Read or Die is proud to host the first ever PINOY READERS' CHOICE AWARDS. The awards will be given out in four categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Young Adults Literature, and Poetry. Read or Die will accept nominations in our website from September 25, 2006 to November 3, 2006. Read more about the awards and how you can participate in and promote it.
We are also hosting PORTRAIT OF THE FILIPINO AS READER, a photography competition and exhibit which will showcase the different faces of the Filipino as a reader in a world which challenges our definitions and perceptions of literacy and what it really means to read. The photography competition is open to all Filipinos.
Artists and illustrators are encouraged to participate in READ THIS!. Read or Die will print customized postcards with illustrations from volunteer artists. These postcards will be given away for free to convention attendees to fill out with book recommendations for their friends and family members, or they can choose names from a directory of fellow readers requesting postcards. Stamps will be availabe in the convention so that attendees can mail the postcards right then and there. We are currently soliciting illustrations for the postcards.
Lotteries will also be held throughout the conventions and free books raffled off to convention attendees. We will be sponsoring a signed book auction, quiz shows, and a book bingo. Visit the EXTRAS! page for more events you can join during the con.
RodCon is a non-profit and charitable event. We welcome your support in any form, whether through BUSINESS SPONSORSHIPS or through joining our VOLUNTEER STAFF or being one of our AFFILIATES.
